Chief Operating Officer
Russ joined Emil van Essen on July 1, 2011 and has over 15 years of executive experience in the futures industry. Russ is responsible for operations, finance, capital raising, and investor relations. Russ was an integral part of taking the futures software firm Trading Technologies, Inc. from a 20 person start–up to a successful 650 person global company through his work as CFO, CIO, and EVP of Global Support. As EVP of Global Buyside Sales, Russ also created and directed TT’s successful buy side sales effort that included capital introduction. Russ served as the North American Head of eBrokerage Sales for Calyon Financial and spent several years as an independent consultant doing finance and litigation support projects. Russ started his career in the audit department of Ernst & Young where he earned his CPA. Russ received his B.S. in accounting from Kansas State University.
Director of Trading
John joined Emil van Essen, LLC in June 2012. John has over 16 years of derivative trading experience across a wide range of commodity and equity markets with a specialization in options trading. From 2009 to May 2012, he established and managed the proprietary energy derivative division of Atlantic Trading USA. From 2006 through 2008, John managed a $30 million energy and $50 million equity hedge book at DellaCamera Capital. From 1995 to 2006, John was a proprietary option market maker on the PHLX currency and equity floors, the CBOE equity option floor, and the New York Mercantile Exchange. John has a BA in Mathematics from Cornell University.
Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Risk Officer and Director of Back Office
Dennis began his career in the futures industry on the CBOT trading floors from 1983 to 1985 working for Clayton Brokerage Co. and Lind Waldock. From 1985 through 1996, Dennis worked for Rosenthal Collins Group (RCG). His primary responsibilities included management of the retail order room, Institutional/CTA desk, and the supervision of the 24-hour international desk. In 1996, Dennis established First United Nationwide, a discount futures trading company which was the foundation for RCG’s current discount division. Dennis joined Fox Investments in 1999 where he met Emil van Essen and eventually joined him at Vankar Trading Corp. in 2001. In his position as Director of Operations and Trading at Vankar, Dennis had numerous responsibilities including management of trading, trade allocations and reconciliation, and compliance. Dennis has a BS in Finance from Western Michigan University.
Director of Accounting
Alex joined Emil van Essen, LLC in January 2012. Most recently, he was controller for Gladius Investment Group. Previously, Alex was with AlphaMetrix360, LLC and served as a Senior Financial Reporting Manager. Alex helped to oversee the operations of the firm as well as helped to manage investor relations, portfolio operations and financial reporting. Prior to AM360 Alex was Deputy Manager for Custom House Administration and Corporate Services . Alex holds dual BB in International Business and Finance from Loyola University Chicago, with a minor in economics. Alex is also currently a candidate for MS of Accountancy from DePaul University Chicago.
Director of Business Development
Tony joined Emil van Essen on September 1, 2010 as Director of Business Development and is responsible for marketing and investor relations. Tony has 25 years of industry experience focused on trading and institutional sales of fixed income, energy and commodity products. From 2004 to August of 2010 Tony was responsible for new product development at the CME Group. His responsibilities included building strategic partnerships with market maker firms, proprietary trading groups and hedge funds. Tony began his career on the CBOT trading floor working for Morgan Stanley as an institutional salesman and trader. Tony graduated from the Indiana University – Kelly School of Business with a B.S. in Finance and Economics.
